Mini Excavator Operator Certification – 1 Day Course Outline

  • Certification Issued Through: IVES Training Group
  • Delivery: Classroom & Practical
  • Class Size: 4–8 Students
  • Equipment: Mini Excavator (1–8 ton)

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion, participants will be able to:

  • Safely operate a mini excavator in jobsite conditions
  • Perform required pre-use inspections
  • Identify hazards and ground disturbance risks
  • Demonstrate practical operating competency
  • Meet IVES Training Group certification requirements

Day 1 – Theory & Basic Operation

Morning (Classroom Reviewing IVES Training Manual) including but not limited to:

  • Safety orientation and legal responsibilities
  • Excavator components and controls
  • Pre-use inspection and maintenance
  • Jobsite hazards and utility awareness
  • Written Test

Afternoon (Practical):

  • Safe mounting and dismounting
  • Start-up and shutdown procedures
  • Basic control operation (demonstration of simple tasks)

Evaluation and Certification

  • Written knowledge exam (minimum 80%)
  • Practical skills evaluation
  • Successful participants receive IVES Training Group certification

Pricing

Standard Pricing (Per Student):

  • Base Certification (1 Day): $695
    • Includes printed workbook, and expanded documentation

Minimum Enrollment:

  • Minimum 4 students required to run at standard pricing
  • Premium flat rates available for groups of less than 4 students and are priced accordingly:
    • 2 Students: $1200 per student
    • 3 Students: $900 per Student

Pricing Notes:

  • All pricing is subject to applicable taxes (GST).
  • Pricing is valid for 30 days from date of quotation.
  • Courses may be rescheduled if minimum enrollment is not met.
  • Travel and remote site charges will be quoted and approved in advance.

Payment Terms

  • 50% deposit required to confirm booking
  • Balance due prior to or on first day of training
  • Net 15 terms available for approved employer clients

Travel & Remote Site Surcharges

Training conducted outside of the Central Okanagan region may be subject to additional travel and remote site charges.

  • Local Area (Vernon and Kelowna): No travel surcharge
  • Extended Okanagan / Thompson Region: Mileage billed at CRA-approved rates
  • Out-of-Region / Remote Sites:
    • Travel time billed at $85/hour (portal to portal)
    • Mileage billed at CRA-approved rates
    • Accommodation and meals billed at cost plus 10%
    • Equipment transportation charged as applicable

Remote or camp-based sites may require a minimum daily rate and/or modified schedule to
account for travel, safety, and site conditions.

Weather Delay & Environmental Conditions

Training activities are subject to weather and environmental conditions. High Valley Safety & Training Services reserves the right to delay, modify, or suspend practical training activities due to conditions that may compromise safety, including but not limited to extreme cold or heat, heavy rain, high winds, poor ground conditions, smoke, or reduced visibility.

  • Classroom instruction may proceed during weather delays where possible
  • Practical components may be rescheduled or extended as required
  • Weather-related delays do not constitute course cancellation
  • Additional days required due to weather delays may be billed at the applicable additional day rate unless otherwise agreed in writing

Cancellation & No-Show Policy

Cancellations and changes must be submitted in writing via email.

  • Cancellations made more than 7 calendar days prior to the course start date: Full refund
    or credit
  • Cancellations made within 7 calendar days of the course start date: 50% of course fees will
    be charged
  • Cancellations made within 48 hours of the course start date: 100% of course fees will be
    charged
  • No-shows or participants who fail to attend without notice: 100% of course fees will be
    charged

Substitutions may be accepted with prior notice, subject to eligibility and documentation
requirements.

Instructor Cancellation

In the unlikely event that High Valley Safety & Training Services must cancel or reschedule a course due to instructor illness, equipment failure, or unforeseen circumstances, participants will be offered the option of rescheduling or receiving a full credit. Liability is limited to course fees paid.

Force Majeure

High Valley Safety & Training Services shall not be held liable for delays, interruptions, or cancellation of training services resulting from events beyond its reasonable control, including but not limited to acts of God, extreme weather events, wildfire, smoke conditions, flood, earthquake, pandemic, public health orders, labor disputes, equipment shortages, utility outages, governmental actions, or other unforeseen circumstances (“Force Majeure Events”).

In the event of a Force Majeure Event:

  • Training may be postponed, modified, or rescheduled
  • Fees paid will be credited toward a future course where possible
  • High Valley Safety & Training Services Ltd. shall not be liable for indirect or consequential losses

Participant Removal for Unsafe Behaviour

High Valley Safety & Training Services reserves the right to immediately remove any participant from training activities, including classroom or practical components, if the participant demonstrates unsafe behavior or fails to comply with safety instructions.

Unsafe behavior may include, but is not limited to:

  • Failure to follow instructor directions
  • Reckless or aggressive equipment operation
  • Impairment due to drugs, alcohol, or fatigue
  • Removal or bypassing of safety devices
  • Endangering themselves, other participants, instructors, or property

Participants removed for unsafe behavior:

  • Will not be permitted to continue training
  • Will not receive certification
  • Will not be entitled to a refund
  • May require retraining at additional cost
